Ooops

We were cleaning out of iPhoto. Trying to get things working a little better. Our poor little iMac can do a lot of things, but handling a library of over 1000 photos is not one of them. In one swoop we removed all pictures taken over the last 12 months. Positives … well, we have most burned to CD. Negatives … we had not yet backed up or put a gallery of our trip to Nashville … pity really, but a great excuse to go again.
First, I will see what I can recover … so all may not be lost, but now we focus on the future. How do you manage your digital photo libraries? Are you backing up your photos?

  1. Every image I shoot (that survives the immediate delete on the camera) gets copied onto my external FW hard drive for permanent storage.
Eventually, I’ll get around to burning them onto DVD for an even more permanent solution. But 120GB will hold a lot of photos.

  2. A very good question. I /used/ to back up my photos to CD from within iPhoto, but I haven’t done that in quite some time. Your post is definitely motivating me though!
I think you should write up how this happened on Technobabel; I think it’s an egregious UI design flaw.

  3. We don’t need to get in to the how’s and whys. Suffice to say that coffee could have helped prevent this one. 🙂
… and Cam is a very patient husband.
