Birthday 0: Joseph Lorne Bahan

Time of the water breaking – stage 1
As mentioned previously, the day started at 8AM this morning. The doctor broke Melissa’s water and started the snowball rolling downhill. By 10AM she was in early labor and by noon she was starting to get strong and regular contractions. An hour later Kurtis and I broke for a quick lunch expecting a long, grueling afternoon … but that was not to be. By 1:15PM I did not expect things to last another hour … and I was right.
Joseph Lorne Bahan was born 7 pounds 14 oz and 20.25 inches at 2:00PM. He and mom are doing great. Melissa went without any drugs, things just went too fast, and was up and moving within an hour of giving birth. This was a completely incredible experience to be a part of. I am still in awe.
Here are some pictures from the day. There will be plenty more in the following days, so stay tuned 🙂

  2. I would just like to add my name to the chorus of WAHOOs! 🙂 Man, it’s simply amazing, holding a life so tiny with so much potential… Cam, Melissa, thanks for giving me the chance to be part of your big day. I am confident Joseph will grow up healthy and strong under your care!

  8. Congratulations, Cam & Melissa. I know Poppa Joe would be very pleased, and who knows…maybe he’s smiling now, along with Auntie Lou (she’d be so thrilled!) He’s a beautiful baby – you both did a great job.

  9. Congratulations…I know you guys are going to do great. About the hat though…

  10. I have never seen a handsome new born baby like Joseph, Melissa really looks great! Cameron, when will you come back office? Another baby cries sometimes :(. Don’t worry, we take care of this one :).

  11. Heya Cameron,
Congratulations on your new arrival! The pictures are wonderful. If you thought sleeping under the conference room table was bad, you’re in for a rough ride 🙂
Great to hear the birth was quick. Melissa look like they’re in great shape.

  12. You two sure do make a cute baby. I notice by the other comments that I’m not the only one to think so. I copied a lot of the pictures to my desktop so that I can take it and show the kids in my class and the other staff. Day Cares don’t tend to have computers and internet access in their playrooms. But—-I have a laptop which is easy to transport. I can’t wait to be able to hold little Joe. I’m sure I’ll never get my fill. Take good care of that very special gift God has given you. Isn’t His handiwork amazing! Kurt, be kind to your sister. She feels bad enough that you got to be there for this big event and she didn’t. Boo Hoo!
    Love you all
    The new grandma
