This year, on Good Friday, Melissa and I headed to Ft. Myers for the afternoon and evening (picture album available). Never having travelled south yet we took some time to see the sites. Walked around the boardwalk downtown, visited the Edison-Ford Estates, and spent time at Manatee Park (though it was too late in the season to see the Manatees). Of note, Manatee Park is one of the best parks we have seen down here. Small though it is, it was well kept with beautiful trails.
Nice walk along the boardwalk – man, zoom in on THAT belly!!! The countdown has begun.
Ever wonder what goes on at a bug party
Eating …
… and socializing of course
Edison’s patent of the Phonograph
Game time
But … it was the evening that we were really looking forward to. The Victoria Salmon Kings were in town visiting the Florida Everblades – and for Krishen, Darren, Melissa, and I – that meant HOCKEY!!!!! This is Victoria’s first season in the ECHL, are sitting at the bottom of their division, and previously lost to the Everblades 7-1 … so we were not expecting anything other than a good time. But after going down 3-1 in the second the Salmon Kings kicked into gear. Their passes were more crisp, their hits were solid, and they started digging with more gusto. They hounded the Florida goalie and pelted shots at the net – taking the lead 4-3 late in the third period. A sweet stick save by a Florida defender saved a empty net blast that would have wrapped up the game – but the Kings managed to hang on. They play again tonight … and we wish them luck. But thanks for the show boys – you really helped bring life to some sad, hockey deprived Canadians down here in Florida.
Two very happy Canucks
