Gun deck of the Castillo De San Marcos
Well, it is that time of year again. We have started pushing for tight release dates and that of course means back to working engineering hours. The entire team is here this fine Saturday morning. I have several major tasks on my plate at the moment and I am hoping that I will be able to clean-up one today. Simply, it is a couple of events and a transfer of a file … but in reality it is never quite that simple is it 🙂 Anyways, it is good to have a goal … provides focus to the energy … and really, who want to be spinning wheels on a Saturday when you could be down at the beach.
Verizon has been calling us recently regarding DSL service … apparently moving the 15ft across the hall gave us the extra distance we needed to get in range of the central office. So now that we have cable hooked up we are looking at replacing the cable-modem with a DSL-modem. We could get DSL for $30/mth – which is not bad since I was paying almost $25 for dialup. Cable pushes between $40-50 (though we are 2 months into a 6 month deal for $25/mth).
Used both and had decent experiences with both. Right now I do have issues with the cable modem (it stores the MAC address of the computer so I have to reboot the modem if I switch to having the powerbook plugged in).
So, do we want to save money and go with DSL …. or stick with Cable which is already installed?
Go with DSL!! I’ve had DSL for 5 years, and have never had a problem with it. Friends (and family) with Cable modems are always talking about how things aren’t working, or how the cable got knocked out.
I’d recommend checking out dslreports.com. They let you search for reports by geographical area (zipcode), which is important, because service can vary quite a bit depending on where you are. For example, I’ve had very few problems with high speed cable in the 6 years I’ve had it.
